Project - Mamod Steam Engine

ARCHIVED

When I was a kid, my parents bought me a model steam engine - when I saw a picture of one recently on the net, I decided it would be a nice model to make with Wings 3D.

The images are rendered using Wings own OpenGL render engine. Although this does produce a nice clean image, it lacks the shadows and reflections that would be produced in a competent ray-tracer such as Povray. Therefore to complete the project, I will rendering the final image in Povray (there's a Povray export plug-in available for Wings 3D).

Updates

  • Jul 2003 - Completion: 100%
    • As I don't plan to do any more work on this, I'm declaring the project complete
  • Jun 2003 - Completion: 99%
    • I've made some slight changes to the model but I'm not totally happy with the materials and colors that I used
    • The grey 'metal' needs brightening, the black elements need to be shinier with a more 'hammered' finish and the red base needs re-modelling
    • I don't want to spend any more time on it at the moment, so I'm going to leave the project in it's current state
    • I may return to it in future to correct the elements described above and perhaps create an 'environment' for it to sit in.
  • May 2003 - Completion: 95%
    • Added first Povray render
